Brad Jones has confirmed Team BOC will build a new car for Jason Bright to contest the 2014 Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix next week.

On a team video, Jones said he was doubtful BJR001 – which Bright contested the 2013 Championship with – will ever be raced again.

“A lot of damage done to the chassis, so we’ve decided we are going to put the new chassis into action,” team boss Jones said.

“The guys came into the fab shop at 5am this morning, they’ve got that finished, 12 hours work on the new chassis – we’ll get that into the paintshop tonight, hopefully get it back by Wednesday morning and then we’ll start the assembly process so we are on time at the Grand Prix.”

Bright’s crash on Sunday was spectacular, the BOC Commodore launching sideways over kerbing and rolling through the air, to settle on a tyre bundle near the fence.

He walked out without injury, and funnily enough, it the first ever rollover for the driver, who turns 41 on March 7 (Friday).

“It felt like it tumbled pretty gently for a while and then it got into the tyre barrier and that’s when it got a bit rougher,” Bright told v8supercars.com.au after the accident.

“After it climbed the fence it landed on its roof quite heavy.

“That was the worst bit, although I also remember the ‘old fella’ getting squashed a bit!

“But the belts and everything did their job, I felt really secure all the time.”

The repair is a big cost for the small team, who rebuilt BJR001 overnight after Bright’s co-driver Andrew Jones sustained substantial damage in an accident at the Gold Coast 600 meeting last October.

Stay tuned for updates each day as the BJR races the clock to get ‘Brighty’ on the grid for the 2014 Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
