Todd Kelly has won the final challenge at the KL City Grand Prix, after a late dive from young gun Scott McLaughlin.

Avoiding the Volvo’s last lap lunge had Kelly out wide and so close to the concrete, but the V8 Supercars veteran and event pole sitter held on to take the chequered flag with just a 0.279sec lead.

The 2005 Bathurst winner celebrated in spectacular fashion – and even though he came home in the fifth and final position, Craig Lowndes joined the fun smoking up the tyres on his #888 Holden Commodore and triggering a show from all five.

Will Davison in the Erebus Mercedes led the field early but fell to third, with two-time challenge winner Chaz Mostert in his Pepsi Max Ford behind.

With his two earlier wins, Mostert earned the most points for the event, standing on the top step of the podium and taking home the first ever KL City Grand Prix V8 Supercars winner’s trophy.

McLaughlin and Kelly finished second and third in the points after their efforts this weekend.

The challenge marked the end of a successful showcase in Malaysia, the five V8 Supercars giving a strong crowd a taste of the sport ahead of a fully blown Championship round next season.
