Gold Coast based Kiwi Jaxon Evans, was one of eight rising talents selected to take part in the New Zealand Elite Motorsport Academy ‘camp’ on the 3-9th of July, run by the Motorsport New Zealand Scholarship Trust in association with High Performance Sport New Zealand and the Otago Academy of Sport.

After a late arrival to the camp (due to racing commitments), Evans finished a close third place behind winner, Jacob Smith (Auckland) and Hunter McElrea (Gold Coast, Australia)

“Being pushed to the limits both physically and mentally was a massive challenge, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I have taken away fundamental skills and an extensive amount of knowledge that will help with the continuous development of my career”. Evans commented.

As well as the seven day camp, a tailored twelve-month follow-up package is designed to foster the professional development of talented Kiwi motorsport competitors, which has played a significant role in the careers of many established New Zealand stars such as Shane van Gisbergen, Hayden Paddon and Brendon Hartley.

“I’d like to extend a massive thank-you to Motorsport New Zealand and everyone involved behind the scenes, I’m looking forward to putting new skills to practice and finishing the year off strong!”

Evans is back in action this weekend as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli heads to Queensland Raceway.

Looking to capitalise on the home track advantage, Hardeman and Evans sit level at the top of the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy standings from Porsche Australia Junior Jake Klarich, leaving it all to play for in the 40 lap race on Saturday Afternoon.

“I am really looking forward to jumping back in the car and fighting for not only the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy, but to keep the championship alive. We had a solid test day 2 weeks ago and showed some good consistent speed, the team at McElrea Racing know QR like the back of their hand, so I hope we can use that to our advantage this weekend”.

The two Sunday races of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli, along with the entire Sunday race schedule of the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals round in Sydney, is available to view via live stream from www.thenationals.com.au.
