SRO Motorsports Group has announced the launch of an intercontinental GT challenge for 2016, which will include the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the Sepang and Bathurst 12 hour races and a three-hour event alongside the Pirelli World Challenge round at the Circuit of The Americas.

The new concept, which has yet to-be-named, is specifically aimed at GT manufacturers.

“We would like to bring together what should be the best GT long distance events where GT3 cars can win overall,” Ratel said.

The Frenchman said he would like to see GT3 manufacturers elect their best teams in each of the four key markets (Australia, U.S., Europe and Asia) to run cars at the event.

“What I’ve learned from a difficult experience with the FIA GT1 World Championship is that the logistical side of things can be very expensive,” he said.

“It’s a lot better to transport drivers, engineers and our concept is to tell the manufacturers to use their best local teams.”

SRO will provide the Balance of Performance and technical control at all the events, with common sporting regulations to be introduced in 2017.

The new project will coexist with a yet-to-be launched Asia-Pacific GT3 Series, which, if it materializes, will feature at least four races.

Further details will be announced by the end of October.
