Mahindra Endurance Series targets big field with new MSNZ sanctioning

The 2015 Mahindra North Island Endurance Series looks set to be bigger and better thanks to the series becoming sanctioned by Motorsport New Zealand and huge interest from prospective teams and drivers.

The three round series will begin at Taupo on May 30th, with Round 2 at Hampton Downs on June 27th and the final round this season at Pukekohe on July 25th.

The series was a major success in its first year in 2014 and organisers have been inundated with enquiries from owners of all types of endurance racing machinery. “The enquiries and interest will only increase now that the series has championship status thanks to MSNZ’s support and sanctioning of our articles,” explained series board chairman Kel McBeath.

“We think it is very positive news for the sport and everyone involved in the Mahindra NI Series, as well as the North Island Endurance Racing Drivers Club of which all of our drivers are members.

“Competing in a recognised championship series will hold extra appeal for all drivers and teams, as well as their sponsors and we thank MSNZ for its support and encouragement in making the series a success. This is a key step on the way.”

This time last year MotorSport NZ also confirmed championship status for the South Island Endurance Series. The three-round series was contested at three out of the four south island circuits and earned NZ Endurance Championship title status, but with a view to expanding to a combined North/South Island Endurance Championship.

The series is hoping to make a series of announcements in the near future in regard to TV coverage, and concerning new teams entering the 2015 championship.
