Young V8 driver Mark Gibson has been selected to attend the Asia-Pacific selection event for the FIA Institute’s 2013 Young Driver Excellence Academy next week.

Nominations were sought from New Zealand, with one driver from 20 invited FIA ASNs (National Sporting Authorities) eligible to attend the selection event to be held 20-23 October at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Auckland based Gibson (21) is the ideal candidate having won the Elite Motorsport Academy in 2012.  Mark began his racing career in the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup Championship, taking third overall in 2011/12, and is currently co-piloting Dominic Storey in the V8 SuperTourer Endurance Series.

Gibson said, “It is a real privilege to be nominated by MotorSport NZ for the FIA Academy.  I will give it my all over there and hopefully the skills I learnt during the Elite Motorsport Academy will put me in good stead.”

“Fostering our Sport’s young talent is a real priority”, commented Brian Budd, MotorSport NZ’s general manager, “it’s important we make the most of these opportunities through the FIA and the high level of tuition they can offer – we wish Mark the best of luck next week and look forward to hearing the results.”
