Submitters to Tasman’s Long Term Plan have thrown their support behind the proposed New Zealand Central Motorsport and Adventure Park at Kohatu, although the private project is not on the council’s list of proposed infrastructure spending.
The park attracted 218 submissions from the total of 531 received by the district council by the close of play on Monday afternoon.
The next most popular subject among ratepayers was the proposed $74m Waimea Community Dam which attracted 154 submissions. Also-rans including the council’s financial strategy, rates affordability and debt each of which attracted about 30 to 50 submissions.
Strategic policy manager Mark Tregurtha said the council had not actively consulted on the Kohatu motorsport park, but people could submit on what they wished.
Most of the submissions on the park simply recorded support for the project, although a few asked for financial backing, he said.
The bulk of the LTP submissions arrived last Friday and during the weekend and of the total 400 were received by the council through its website, 80 by email and the remainder by post.
Of those who input into the district’s future planning 90 submitters asked to be heard – half of whom came from Richmond with the remainder generally divided between Motueka and Golden Bay.
