Pre-season podium for CRC’s Brad Mosen

Auckland midget car racer Brad Mosen kicked off his summer campaign in near perfect fashion at Huntly Speedway in the Waikato last night.

Having escaped a small field in both heat races to score wins in his first two races of the season, Mosen was unable to repeat the feat in an exciting feature race, where he was forced to start from the rear as the fastest qualifier.

The 25-year-old CRC Synergy Racing driver made a cautious start to the finale by his standards, picking off just three cars in five laps to sit in sixth place when the first and only caution flag brought the field back together.

From the restart he quickly snapped up two more cars and entered an exciting and clean four-way battle out front with current 2NZ Chris McCutcheon, Alvin Cobb and fellow Aucklander Chris Gwilliam.

Mosen eventually finished second behind Gwilliam, who backed up his win at Bay Park in Tauranga with another in Huntly last night.

“I got off to a slow start just being patient and picking my moments but once I got up to those front three cars it was actually a pretty fun race,” said Mosen.

“I’m pretty happy with how the night went being the first outing of the season and look forward to cranking it up a notch next time.”

CRC Synergy Racing team manager and co owner Luke Fisher said the trip down to Huntly was well-worthwhile as new combinations and winter frost were ironed out.

“The new car had a good shakedown and is still in one piece so we achieved all that we wanted to achieve which is great,” he said.

“This was purely a pre-season exercise for the team so it was more about getting back into the swing of things than results, but it was good to give a decent showing regardless.”If nothing else, last night provided the CRC Synergy Racing team with great preparation for the regular season, which gets underway at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland on November 3.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to the Springs next week and putting on a real spectacle for the crowd,” said Mosen.
