Walton demolishes Ute rivals at IMT500

Kris ‘Killa’ Walton wrapped up a stellar weekend at the ITM 500 Supercar event to win his third race out of four in the UDC V8 Utes – winning the round and increasing his already dominant lead in the championship.

With the race shortened to an all or nothing four lap sprint after a crash in an earlier support class, Walton made a great getaway to lead into Turn 1 from a fired up Brett ‘The Scud’ Rudd, Geoff ‘SOS’ Spencer and Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot. He kept the hammer down through the twisty section of Turns 2,3 and 4 where he had been quick all weekend and popped out on the straight with a two car length lead. He continued to pull away and the four laps counted down very quickly for the Aussie ace.

Behind him Rudd and Spencer duelled for second and SOS had a couple of goes but ultimately didn’t have the laps to mount a prolonged attack. Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot had a quiet race in fourth though it was anything but behind him with Peter ‘Kaos’ Ward sliding spectacularly wide at the Mountain and missing the wall by inches – with his foot still firmly planted on the go pedal. He gathered it all up once he got back on the tarmac and didn’t lose a place, but had a charging pack right on his tail. Sam ‘Bazza’ Barry did exactly the same and he too (for the second day in a row) avoided the Big One.

Ward survived a couple more hairy moments and lock ups to stay ahead of Jack ‘Fanta’ Kofoed, while John ‘JP’ Penny, Glen ‘Coyote’ Collinson, Saturday race winner Peter ‘Rocketman’ Robb and Barry fought hard for the whole race and eventually finished in that order for sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Jeremy ‘Lost It’ Gray survived a hairy moment approaching the mountain early on to take eleventh from ‘Dirty’ Dave Kernohan, but those last two places would be the subject of an appeal.
