Toyota Racing Series champion Nick Cassidy will test for Formula 3 European Championship squad T-Sport at Spielberg on Wednesday.
T-Sport squad ran just a single Dallara-Nissan for Spike Goddard at last weekend’s European round at the same track, with Will Buller having switched to rival team Fortec ahead of the event.
New Zealander Cassidy, 18, hopes that the test can lead to race drives with the team during the second half of the season.
“I’d been set to do GP3 this year with Manor, but my funding fell over at the last minute, which was a shame. Since then I’ve been looking for new opportunities,” he told AUTOSPORT.
“I wasn’t looking at racing this year since the GP3 thing fell over, but now that Will Buller’s changed his plans there’s a car available and I’m really looking forward to testing.
“Currently the plans don’t go beyond the test as I haven’t got the budget to do a race. Something will have to change in order to do that.
“I really hope the test goes well because I’d love to do the rest of the season with T-Sport.”
Cassidy has won the past two TRS titles, beating a host of current European F3 drivers, such as Lucas Auer, Alex Lynn and Raffaele Marciello in the process.
