Sébastien Buemi set the standard on the first official day of Formula E testing at Donington Park.

The e.dams driver, who currently races in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for Toyota and acts as Red Bull’s reserve in Formula 1, clocked a time of 1:35.475 in the final hour of running.

Lucas di Grassi wound up second fastest for Abt, having taken over driving duties from team-mate Daniel Abt when the German departed for Silverstone and this weekend’s GP2 round at midday.

Virgin’s Sam Bird, Mahindra’s Bruno Senna and Venturi’s Stéphane Sarrazin, who also contests the WEC with Toyota, rounded out the top five positions.

Nicolas Prost completed just 11 laps, 25 fewer than pace-setting team-mate Buemi, but still managed to post the sixth quickest time, just ahead of Jarno Trulli and the aforementioned Abt.

Jaime Alguersuari and Karun Chandhok completed the top 10 for Virgin and Mahindra respectively.

Of the 20 drivers in action, 19 managed to post lap times, with a field spread of almost 13 seconds.

Trulli’s team-mate, Michela Cerruti, was the driver who failed to complete a lap amid technical issues.
