Katherine Legge is the first female driver and the 11th in total to be confirmed for the inaugural Formula E campaign, after the British racer signed an agreement with the newly-renamed Amlin Aguri team.

Having climbed the single-seater ladder, Legge moved to the United States in 2005 where she contested the Toyota Atlantic Championship and Champ Car, before returning to Europe for a spell in the DTM series.

In 2012, she embarked on another phase in the US, competing in IndyCar and the American Le Mans Series.

Legge, who has also tested Formula 1 machinery during her career, is the first driver to join the outfit, which changed its name from Super Aguri after a sponsorship deal with leading insurance company Amlin.

“This is a really exciting opportunity,” she said. “The car is fantastic, it looks amazing and it will be very quick.

“Racing through the streets of the world’s leading cities will be an incredible experience and I think it’s a great chance to bring racing to the people. We will be driving in their cities on their streets.”

Formula E’s debut season gets underway in Beijing on September 13.
