Former Italian Formula 3 champion Cesar Ramos will substitute for Richie Stanaway at the Lotus Formula Renault 3.5 team.

Stanaway sustained back injuries during the third event of the season at Spa-Francorchamps and his recovery is forecast to take at least five months.

Brazilian Ramos competed in FR3.5 with Fortec last season, finishing 11th in the drivers’ standings and scoring pole positions at Motorland Aragon and Monza.

“It’s a pleasure to be back in World Series by Renault with such a great team,” said Ramos. “I’ll work hard to make the most of this opportunity. Meanwhile, I’d like to wish Richie a quick recovery.”

Ramos will gain his first experience of the 2012-generation FR3.5 car at the Nurburgring World Series by Renault meeting this weekend.

“It is never easy for any driver to jump in mid-way during a season,” said Lotus’s Bob Vavrik. “But I am happy that we have found such an experienced driver. I think that we will be able to get good results together, and we are looking forward to it.”
