Barichello to switch Indycar teams

Rubens Barrichello is set to switch from KV Racing to a rival squad for the 2013 IndyCar season.

The 40-year-old Brazilian has endured a frustrating transition to racing in North America after leaving Formula 1 at the end of last season, with just five finishes inside the top 10 and a best result of seventh.

It was widely assumed that his close relationship with fellow KV driver Tony Kanaan – who engineered his move to IndyCar – would be enough to keep him with the team next year.

However, Barrichello said that he has no qualms about moving from the squad owned by Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser to a team that can deliver on his aim to run at the front.

AUTOSPORT understands that he has already held advanced talks with at least one Honda-powered team about a drive next year.

“I don’t like being 15th, and I am working myself up,” Barrichello told AUTOSPORT. “I’m getting better in comparison with my team-mates, but my car is still not. And the strategy side still hasn’t clicked.

“I’m fairly open to [KV owners] Jimmy [Vasser] and Kevin [Kalkhoven]; they gave me a car, and we had a situation where the deal was done in the last 20 minutes. But I’m here to win.

“Now that I have done IndyCar, I want to do it better, because I don’t think I was able to do what I am really capable of for one reason or another. And since I do this because I enjoy doing it, I might as well come back.”
