New Zealand driver Scott Dixon crashed out of the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500 with 32 laps remaining.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won his first ever title at the Brick Yard after holding off three time winner Helio Castroneves at the finish line. Hunter-Reay’s teammate Marco Andretti finished in third.

Hunter-Reay is the first American to win the title since Sam Hornish, Jr in 2006 and only the third American in 16 years to drink milk on victory lane.

Dixon was fourth when he ran into the wall at turn four on the 168th lap, sliding across the track before hitting another wall.

The 2008 Indy 500 winner was later cleared by medical staff at the Indianapolis Speedway.
