IndyCar team Chip Ganassi Racing had its first experience of the new Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana track at a test day this week.

Former IndyCar champion Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan, race winner Charlie Kimball and development driver Sage Karam all took part in the test at the NOLA Motorsports Park, which will host its first IndyCar race on 10-12 April.

The track was designed by Alan Wilson who also created IndyCar track Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

Dixon was thoroughly impressed with the facilities in Louisiana, which opened in 2011, and is confident the track will be up to scratch when they return for a second test day which will host multiple IndyCar teams next month.

“The facility is very good. Once you get the grandstands up and there’s a little prep to be done to the track, it will be too,” Dixon said. “Right now I think the track layout is going to be really good.”

“It’s exciting to come to New Orleans. You’re never really sure for the first time how a new track will be received. I think the crowds will be very good. Even talking to the people at the hotel last night, they know the race is coming. I hope we can put on a good show.”
