Scott Dixon has carried on where he left off, winning the second race of the 2016 IndyCar season in Phoenix.

From sixth on the grid, the New Zealand driver was too slick over the 250 laps around the one mile (1.6km) oval, leading most of the way to claim the Phoenix Grand Prix ahead of Simon Pagenaud and Will Power. An eventful race ended under caution, the sixth time the yellow flag was unfurled.

It was Dixon’s 39th career victory – moving him to equal fourth on the all-time list alongside Al Unser – and an excellent start to his bid for a fifth IndyCar title after he claimed the overall spoils in 2015.

He finished seventh in the season opener in St Petersburg.
