Mikhail Aleshin’s condition has been upgraded to stable following his huge IndyCar practice crash at Fontana on Friday.

Aleshin suffered fractured ribs, a broken collarbone, concussion and chest injuries in the accident, and will remain at Loma Linda University Medical Centre while he recuperates from a procedure for the injury to his chest.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsport will not replace the Russian for Saturday night’s season-finale; the team opting instead to focus on its remaining car for Simon Pagenaud, who remains in mathematical contention for the championship.

Charlie Kimball, who was also involved in the crash, was checked and cleared at the infield medical centre on Friday night.
