Sage Karam led a Ganassi domination of the additional Indianapolis 500 practice session tagged on to the end of Monday’s running at the Speedway.

Karam established himself at the top with a fastest lap of 227.831mph, going clear of team-mate Scott Dixon’s 226.542mph.

Fellow Ganassi driver Tony Kanaan was fifth-fastest, with JR Hildebrand and James Davison sandwiched in between.

The session was added to the schedule to make up for the track time lost earlier in the day following James Hinchcliffe’s heavy crash at Turn 3.

Hinchcliffe’s Schmidt Peterson team elected not to take part in the afternoon session.

The Canadian remains in a stable condition in IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after undergoing surgery to an injury on his upper left thigh.

The team is yet to make any formal statement about its plans going forward, however paddock speculation places Katherine Legge among the favourites to take over the car for Sunday’s race.
