Holden aero parity adjustments a talking point for this weekend’s NZTC round

Category management for the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship has announced aerodynamic parity adjustments between its class one cars.

After a recent test session at Hampton Downs, driver Andre Heimgartner tested the Holden Commodore TLX of fellow class one competitor Lance Hughes.

Heimgartner tested the car using both the standard TLX rear aerodynamic wing before fitting the wing as seen on the class one V8 SuperTourer specification cars.

The V8 SuperTourer wing showed substantial improvement under braking, corner and exist speeds and significantly improved the lap times of the TLX Holden by 8/10ths of a second.

Following the test, category management decided to get the rear wings made and fitted to all TLX spec class one cars before the fourth round.

The class one TLX spec field comprises of the Nissan Altima of Nick Ross, the Holden Commodore’s of Lance Hughes and Tom Alexander, and the Toyota Camry’s of Scott Taylor and Jason Bargwanna.

Category Manager Gary Lathrope says the aero adjustment is part of the category’s continual assessment of parity in the class.

“We see this adjustment as a cost effective and simple step to bring the cars closer together. We will be making ongoing changes and will continue until we feel both specification cars are on a level pegging with each other.”

The BNT NZ Touring Cars will return to the circuit this weekend for round four of the championship to be held at Ruapuna near Christchurch.
