Todd Kelly will start this afternoon’s opening V8 Supercars demo race in Kuala Lumpur from pole position.

Kelly, driving brother Rick’s Nissan Altima, was the best of the five V8s as they hit the track in dry conditions for the first time.

His benchmark time of 1m24.569s edged out Triple Eight Holden driver Craig Lowndes, who was second fastest with a 1m24.631s.

Practice pace-setter Chaz Mostert was third in the Prodrive Ford, ahead of Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin and Erebus driver Will Davison.

The first of three ‘challenge’ race is scheduled for 3:10pm local time this afternoon.
