Craig Lowndes claimed a landmark 100th win in V8 Supercars in the second race at Hidden Valley on Saturday.

The Triple Eight driver led the 21-lap race from the first corner, when front row starters Rick Kelly and Fabian Coulthard collided.

Lowndes, who turns 41 on Sunday, began racing in the category in 1996.

“It’s quite incredible – we’ve been close a number of times the last couple of rounds, but this one is obviously very special for me,” he said.

“You never set out in this to say you are going to have 100 wins – for me it has been a great career.

“Part of me is thankful to get it over and done with. Every round we have been to recently is has been ‘are you going to do it this round?’

“It’s nice to now finally have it done and I can focus on 101. It’s part relief, part satisfying.”

Lowndes was joined on the podium by Tim Slade and Chaz Mostert, who had earlier won race once from Mark Winterbottom and Rick Kelly.

Winterbottom leads Lowndes in the standings by 29 points.
