The ‘other’ Davison brother throws down the gauntlet

V8 Supercars

Alex Davison has thrown down a 1min30 lap after the chequered flag in Phillip Island’s final practice session.

Times have well and truly tumbled at the Sargent Security Phillip Island 360, Davison spearing to the top with a 1min30.9555. Alex Premat was also on a flying lap at the completion of the session and managed second, eclipsing Craig Lowndes.

Remarkably, Team JELD-WEN’s Davison was 0.6sec quicker, while Fujitsu GRM’s Premat and Red Bull Racing Australia’s Lowndes were split by just 0.15sec. Both Davison and Premat have question marks over their futures in V8 Supercars.

Jason Bright, Mark Winterbottom, Will Davison, Tim Blanchard, Michael Caruso, Tim Slade and Scott Pye also made the top 10; Caruso (Nissan) and Slade (Mercedes-Benz AMG) ensuring all four manufacturers were represented.

Fabian Coulthard, who was fastest in the second session, only managed 11th; while Scott McLaughlin, quickest in Practice One, was 26th after power steering problems with his #33 Commodore.

Jamie Whincup, battling for the Championship, was 13th at the end of the session.

One final practice session remains tomorrow at 10.30am local time, ahead of qualifying and the 60/60 Super Sprint race.
