Big ‘NZ Day Out’ for V8 Supercar drivers

Drivers present a cheque at Ronald McDonald

Super Black Racing put on a full on day of Kiwi activities today including sheep mustering and shearing, followed by a visit to Ronald McDonald House, for Prodrive Racing (PRA) drivers while they are in New Zealand on an official PRA training camp.

Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert, David Reynolds, Andre Heimgartner, Cam Waters, Caleb Cross and Bryce Fullwood teamed up against each other at Super Black Racing’s headquarters near Wellsford, with the Australian’s ultimately winning the sheep challenge, much to spectators delight.

The drivers then enjoyed a private display from rally legend Steve Millen in his Ford GT40 alongside a privately owned Porsche 911 Turbo S before taking rides in Augusta Westland and Eurocopter EC130 helicopters.

The team then went to Ronald McDonald House (RMHA) in Auckland to show their support for the many families from all over New Zealand who call RMHA home each year because of critically ill children receiving treatment in hospital by presenting a cheque for $10,000.

Super Black Racing understand the importance of sticking together through tough times as they rely wholly on their entire crew, sometimes referred to as their “race family”, so felt strongly about supporting RMHA because of the work they do for families in need.

CEO of Ronald McDonald House Auckland Wayne Howett said: “Ronald McDonald House Auckland was delighted to have the Super Black Racing Team come and visit our families today. It was clear to see how much enjoyment the team’s visit brought to the House; providing an all-important distraction from the families’ medical journeys.

“Ronald McDonald House Auckland very much appreciates the Super Black Racing family’s generosity and commitment to helping us in taking care of New Zealand’s families.”

Super Black Racing team principal, Paul Radisich said: “Everyone at Super Black Racing really loves the work that Ronald McDonald House does so we were thrilled to meet children and the families and spend some quality time with them.

“As a race team being able to stick together is really important so we really value the work that these guys [Ronald McDonald House] do. That’s why we passed the hat around to make a donation to Ronald McDonald [House] because we all think that the services and facilities they offer are just fantastic.”

The team brought huge excitement and racing fun for RMHA families and it was a great holiday treat and welcome distraction for families going through a tough time.

All of the drivers now return their focus to training for the upcoming V8 Supercars (V8SC) Championship, starting in little over two weeks at the official test day in Sydney.
