Scott McLaughlin has soared to the top of the times in the closing stages of the weekend’s final practice session at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.
The Volvo driver has been the first to dive into the ‘08s’ with a 1min.08.983, jumping ahead of Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander by 0.0455sec and James Courtney by 0.074sec.
Lee Holdsworth in the Erebus Mercedes was fourth, with David Reynolds (first Ford), Shane van Gisbergen – who had a few offs in the session, despite saying he was “really confident through corners” – Jason Bright, Tim Slade, Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup completing the top 10.
Others to note include first Nissan Todd Kelly 11, Mark Winterbottom 12, Fabian Coulthard 17 and Chaz Mostert 19.

Stay tuned for the first of three qualifying sessions for the Wilson Security Sandown 500 kicking off at 12.15pm.
The first is a 20-minute qualifying session that will determine the grid for the qualifying race at 2.45pm. From there, ARMOR ALL Pole Position for tomorrow’s 500 kilometre haul will be determined through another qualifying race at 4.40pm.
