Dick Johnson Racing has begun building up a complete new chassis for the Perth 400 after #17 was involved in a heavy crash at Pukekohe.

David Wall’s Wilson Security-backed Falcon slammed the concrete at turn 10 and had Wall – who had achieved his best race finish result the previous round at Winton – out for the weekend.

Now, DJR senior manager Ryan Story has confirmed it would be a new chassis for the Perth 400, running from May 16-18.

“David’s car sustained very heavy damage in the accident,” Story said.

“There are major issues with the front and rear of the #17 DJR Falcon, with the front end in very bad shape. There is also damage to the firewall.

“With the tight turnaround to get the cars on their way to Perth, we are going to introduce a new one.

“We have a spare, third chassis, built by Pace Innovations at the same time as the two we have been racing since last year. Paul Ceprnich and the team there have done a great job with it.

“FPR have also been a great help with getting parts sent up for the build.”

Although a tight turn around, Story was confident of the team’s ability to have the car ready for the Nullarbor crossing.

“From New Zealand to Perth is a calendar nightmare when you sustain damage like we have, but the boys are into it already and we will see how it progresses over the coming days.

“We will be ready!”

Teammate Scott Pye finished Sunday’s race 13th and sits 19th in the Championship, while Wall has tumbled in the order after sitting out the New Zealand weekend, now in 23rd.
