TEKNO Autosports’ Shane van Gisbergen has again topped practice in Townsville, bettering his earlier time and leading James Moffat by just 0.18sec.

Moffat and his Norton Nissan jumped to second late in the session, which was interrupted briefly with a red flag after Robert Dahlgren’s Volvo was in the wall at turn 11, about five minutes in.

“We changed the front pads, just to bed some pads in and unfortunately they were not up to temp,” Dahlgren told v8supercars.com.au after the session.

“So I had too much rear locking and where I braked the session before, it was too deep, and the front brakes were not up to temp – with the rear locking I couldn’t save it.

“It feels so slow when you go in.”

While the damage to the S60 is just superficial, losing time in the session is detrimental for rookie Dahlgren, who has not raced at the street circuit before.

Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander again appeared second, with Erebus’ Lee Holdsworth, Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin, Will Davison, Michael Caruso, Ford Championship leader Mark Winterbottom, Tim Slade and Jamie Whincup completing the top 10 at the Castrol Townsville 500 – Driven by TAFE Queensland.

Others to note include James Courtney 12, Craig Lowndes 13, Fabian Coulthard 21 and Jason Bright 25th.

A third practice session will unfold this afternoon at the Castrol Townsville 500 – Driven by TAFE Queensland at 12.50pm AEST.

That will follow with final practice tomorrow morning, ahead of qualifying and two 125km races.
