Jamie Whincup has reminded his competitors why he holds the #1, clinching both ARMOR ALL Pole Positions for this afternoon’s 100km races at Symmons Plains.

Whincup continued to lower his best time in the second 10-minute session, ending with a 51.19sec lap, just shy of his teammate’s record of 51.04sec, recorded at the circuit in 2012.

“It was a result of getting everything right,” Whincup said.

“The car was match perfect between the front and rear.

“I think I did a pretty good job as well, got it around as quick as I can.

“Good to piece it together, two poles in one day is a good feeling!”

Whincup will start Race Four with Craig Lowndes alongside and Russell Ingall behind, the veteran excited to score third in his Repair Management Aust Racing Commodore.

The session was punctuated by a red flag period with six and a half minutes to remaining, after Nick Percat speared off-track and will now start from the rear of the grid.

James Courtney, David Reynolds, Mark Winterbottom, Scott McLaughlin, Shane van Gisbergen, Chaz Mostert and Will Davison completing the top 10.

Back-to-back sessions meant time for a quick chat with engineers and then back into the V8 Supercars for the day’s second race.

The Red Bull Holdens again lock out the front row, but all manufacturers fill out the top 10, with Erebus Motorsport having both drivers in the first five rows for the first time.

Mark Winterbottom (Ford), Scott McLaughlin (Volvo), Fabian Coulthard, Lee Holdsworth (Erebus), Will Davison, Todd Kelly (Nissan), Garth Tander and David Reynolds complete the top 10, with Volvo rookie Robert Dahlgren 11th in his first race weekend at Symmons Plains.
