V8 SuperTourers will be out in force at this weekend’s annual Speedshow with up to five of the V8 SuperTourers from the inaugural season of the category on show on various stands at the event.
Greg Murphy’s fantastic Mike Pero Mortgages M3 Racing V8 SuperTourer will feature on the display, and there will be two racing simulators so visitors to the stand can take each other on – or the V8 SuperTourer drivers! For those who don’t fancy taking the aces on at their own game, there will be driver signing session each day on Saturday and Sunday from mid-day featuring the best of New Zealand’s top touring car drivers.
In addition, V8 SuperTourers stand number 23 will also have a surprise display – described as a ‘must see’ by series’ officials – that will be revealed on Saturday at the event. Early Bird tickets for the Taupo Fathers’ Day 400 will also be on sale, and with the offer ending on Sunday night – “Speedshow is a great opportunity not just to see the cars and meet the drivers but to also get Fathers’ Day sorted for dad at the lowest possible price,” explained V8 SuperTourer championship leader John McIntyre.
McIntyre’s car will be one of the other five SuperTourers on display at the show, with team mate Steven Richards’ CRC Ford also on display, along with the Holden V8 SuperTourers of Kayne Scott, Richard Moore and Angus Fogg.
The championship is also hoping to release more exciting news about the second enduro – the International 500 at Pukekohe – which will be the biggest and fastest V8 touring car event at the famous venue for more than five years.
The series has proved to be a massive motorsport success in its first four rounds – with actual crowds of 10,000 plus on race day and more than 60 hours of television including live terrestrial coverage of each round’s Sunday feature race. Drivers from V8 SuperTourers are also the first from any domestic New Zealand V8 racing series in history to be featured on the global Castrol Edge Driver Rankings where their performances are compared with the sport’s biggest names from Formula One, NASCAR, Indycar and V8 Supercars.
“V8 SuperTourers have given the fans in New Zealand exactly what they want,” said Managing Director Mark Petch. “The series has provided some of the closest and most action-packed racing in this country for a generation, exceptionally good value for money for the fans, access to all of the biggest name drivers in New Zealand touring car racing – as well as several from Australia – and a level playing field for teams and drivers.”
