Blomqvist signs with Fortec for Macau Grand Prix

Tom Blomqvist is to contest in the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix with Fortec Motorsport in November, it has been announced.

Blomqvist currently competes in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with EuroInternational where he has earned three podiums and lies sixth in the championship standings.

The 19 year-old returns to the iconic Macau Grand Prix having raced there last year with EuroInternational. In 2010 he competed in the final Formula BMW Series support race there and finished third as well as recording the fastest lap time.

During the same year Blomqvist made history with Fortec Motorsport by becoming the youngest driver to win the Formula Renault UK championship at just 16, beating Lewis Hamilton, who had set the record at aged 18.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix,” he said. “To have been signed again with Fortec Motorsport is a great opportunity. They are a very successful team and had great results there last year. I want to thank Richard Dutton and my manager Mark Blundell for getting me this ride and we will be aiming for success again.”

Richard Dutton, team owner of Fortec Motorsport added: “We are very happy to have signed Tom for the Macau Grand Prix, he is a strong contender for the prestigious race and a great addition to our 5 car line up.”
