Nick Cassidy will replace Daniil Kvyat at Carlin for this weekend’s Formula 3 European Championship finale at Hockenheim.

Kvyat is unavailable for the round due to a clashing Red Bull commitment. The Russian is a member of the F1 team’s junior programme.

Cassidy, a two-time Toyota Racing Series champion, tested for Carlin at Pembrey recently and team boss Trevor Carlin believes the 19-year-old Kiwi will be strong this weekend.

“He looked competitive from the outset on his F3 debut at the Norisring in July and since then we’ve had the opportunity to test him,” Carlin said.

“With his pedigree, we look forward to seeing what he’s capable of at Hockenheim.”

Cassidy finished 11th in two of the three races on his debut F3 weekend in Germany with rival squad EuroInternational.

He said: “I’m massively excited to be back in a Formula 3 car and have the opportunity to drive.

“It’s such a competitive championship and although I know it won’t be easy, it will be a lot of fun.”

“I know the car a little from testing and the races I did early in the year.

“Although I don’t have much experience of Hockenheim, I’ve spent quite a lot of time on the Carlin simulator so I feel good about heading into the weekend.”
