Aucklander Nick Cassidy has won the 2015 Japanese F3 Championship by winning the last two races at Sugo over the weekend.

Double Toyota Racing Series champion and triple New Zealand Grand Prix winner had a perfect weekend, qualifying on pole position for both races and leading from start to finish, ending the season a comfortable 16 points in front of Petronas Team TOM’s team-mate Kenta Yamashita.

The pair started the final of the eight rounds equal on points.

“Mega. Super proud of our performance this weekend,” said Cassidy. “Two poles, two wins and two fastest laps! The team at TOM’S Racing has done an amazing job all year.”

Cassidy said he had the greatest respect for ‪Yamashita who had pushed him all the way. “He’s a great driver and team mate.”

Cassidy finished Saturday’s 25 lap race over eight seconds in front of Lucas Ordonez with Nireri Fukuzumi third and Yamashita fourth.

With extra points for the pole positions and fastest lap, Cassidy had a handy point’s buffer going into yesterday’s final race, where he was even more dominant.

He cleared out from the field from the outset and ran away to win by 19 seconds, again over Ordonez, with Yamashita third.

Cassidy’s final event of the season for TOM’s Racing is the Macau Formula Three Grand Prix, which attracts all the top drivers from Europe. Last year he finished third on his debut at Macau.
